What you need to know about Boreholes:

Borehole Casings: At ocean Rock Drilling we recommend use of Class 9 and Class 10 casings which are high pressure class casings. Class 6 casings are however suitable be used in areas that are not prone to collapsing after drilling. It’s important to insist on use of ISO certified casings from reputable suppliers such as Driptech, Proplastics, Treggers etc.
Borehole Siting: We recommend that Siting be the first stage of the borehole drilling project in order to identify the best drilling point. However, Siting does not give a 100% guarantee on existence of underground but greatly minimize the risk of a dry hole.
Borehole Drilling depth: The minimum borehole depth is 40 metres in order to access under ground water (as opposed to surface water), however due to decreasing water table due to climate change, we recommend deeper boreholes that do not dry up during summer
Risks: The risks involved in borehole drilling lies with the property owner. The client is liable for the drilling costs even if the borehole does not yield water as the charge is for every metre drilled. There are however Wethole arrangements (usually for NGOs) where the Contractor has to guarantee water but the cost of a wethole contract is generally 4 or more times the cost of a standard straight hole/dryhole contract.
Documentation: A drilling project must be adequately documented between the Contractor and the Client. A survey should be supported by a siting report, payments should be receipted, a contract should be signed between the client and the contractor, and a drilling report issued after drilling.
